Walter Raymond Harvey

July 4, 1933 — August 15, 2021

Walter Raymond Harvey, of Green Cove Springs, Florida passed away on Sunday August 15, 2021 after reaching the age of 88 years old. After months of failing health, he died peacefully within his home with his family by his side.

Walter Raymond (Chief) was born on July 4, 1933 in Bostwick Florida, to Walter Raleigh and Jesse Harvey. As a boy he lived on the family farm and learned how to garden and raise livestock. Both skills that he continued to enjoy for the rest of his life.

As a young man, he enlisted in the Navy after his high school graduation and served until his father became ill and he was needed at home. He then went to work for the Florida Highway Patrol and eventually came to work in Clay County in 1964 as Chief Deputy Sheriff.

He married the love of his life, Dorothy Lee Price, on December 3, 1960. Together they built a home in Green Cove Springs, where they raised their 2 sons Roger and Donnie. He spent many years coaching baseball and pop warner football, all the while living a life dedicated to keeping Clay County safe.

After his retirement from the Clay County Sheriff’s office he started a new career in HV/AC where he helped many loyal customers over the years.

He was a good father who always took care of his children and he did the best he could to teach and guide them, a loving papa and great papa to 5. He was a strong, proud and good man. He will be missed by many!

He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Raleigh and Jesse, his siblings, Sam, Bill, Mary and Norma. His wife of 60 years, Dorothy “Dot” Harvey and his son Walter Roger Harvey.

Walter is survived by his son Donald (Brenda), daughter in-law Nancy (the late Roger Harvey). Grandchildren; Jessica Harvey Weaver (Mike), Donald Harvey (Hollie), Victoria Harvey Hall (Jon), Emily Harvey Alicea-Rivera (Andy), Jessica Wilson Crump (Ben) and great grandchildren Savannah Hall, Norah Harvey, Ada Harvey, Grant Crump and Ryleigh Crump.
