Walter John Deptula passed away peacefully in the afternoon of May 6, 2025 at the age of 83 in Jacksonville, Florida. He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Jeanette, his two children, two grandchildren, and a boat load of Werther’s Original caramel hard candies.
After one tour in Vietnam where he served in the United States Army Military Police; and a short stint as a plumber, Walter moved his family to Punta Gorda, Florida where he became an entrepreneur in the printing and engraving business. Walter truly loved living in Charlotte County. He was an engaged and active member of the community serving as little league coach for many years, Take Stock in Children mentor, Kiwanis, and one of the original members of the Punta Gorda Elks Lodge, participating in oodles of fundraisers along the way. Walter successfully ran two businesses, Copy Corner and Gulf Coast Engraving, from which he retired in 2007.
Once retired Walt was free to explore his more creative artistic side. As an active member of the Punta Gorda Visual Arts Center, Walt spent much of his time producing beautiful works of art ranging from pottery to glass art, to paintings. He was also able to satisfy his desire to travel our world a bit and indulge in the unique local cuisines of the regions. Walter was never one to turn down a strange delicacy.
Walter was preceded in death by his father Walter, mother Sophie, brother Tom, and several life-long friends.
Although Walter relocated to Saint Johns County in recent years, there will be a celebration of life memorial in Punta Gorda. The event will be hosted by longtime friend Kathy Palmer on June 7, 2025 from 2 to 4 pm at 26212 Madres Court, Punta Gorda, FL 33983. Well-wishers are encouraged to come tell stories and share memories of Walter. We can't make new memories, but his memory lives on when we speak his name.
Hopefully this has been written with all the proper conventions of the English language otherwise it will torment him forevermore.
