Walter Joseph Brown, age 47 of Jacksonville, FL passed away on February 25, 2022.
Walter was born to parents Walter Henry Brown III (Wally) and Elizabeth Wright Brown (Betty Ann) on Christmas Day 1974 at Riverside Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Walter graduated from N.B. Forrest High School in 1993 where he was a member of the Photography Club and Florida State University in 1999 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology.
Walter worked at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as an officer and detective for 20 years.
Walter was active in many organizations including the Boy Scouts, where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Walter was an adult leader at Troop Two in Jacksonville for many years, always seeking to help scouts with advancement, especially in Wood Badge, and to live the ideals of a true Boy Scout.
Walter was also active in the Masonic Lodge, serving as Worshipful Master of Riverside Lodge #266 in Jacksonville, Florida, as well as being a member of Melrose Lodge in Keystone Heights, FL.
Walter loved camping and finding vintage Coleman lanterns and restoring them to working order. He could always be seen on his back porch with another lantern he’d brought back to life.
He recently took the camping trip of a lifetime to West Virginia and loved every minute of it, coming back with stories of places explored and people he met.
Walter loved relaxing with a good show and especially liked to cook out whenever the chance arose.
He will be remembered as a trusted friend, leader, mentor and role model to anyone that knew him. If Walter said he was going to do something you wouldn’t need to worry. It would get done. If you were his friend, he would do anything for you and never ask to be paid back. That’s who Walter was.
Walter was predeceased by his father, Walter H. Brown III (Wally), Grandparents Walter H. Brown Jr., and Estelle P. Brown as well as grandparents John H. Wright and Carowin Wright and family friends Mike and Betty Goodman of Jacksonville, FL.
Walter is survived by his mother, Elizabeth W. Brown of Keystone Heights, FL, his brother Jonathan H. and wife Krystal, nieces Abbie Diaz and Bailey and dear family friends Eric, Scott and Taylor Goodman.
Walter will be memorialized at Melrose Lodge in Keystone Heights, Florida at 3pm on Saturday, March 5, 2022.
