Timothy Douglas Elswick, 72, of Green Cove Springs, FL, devoted husband and father, went to be with the Lord in the early evening hours of July 26, 2022, while surrounded by the family that adored him.
He was born to parents John C. Elswick and Mildred Charlene Elswick in Ashland, KY on September 20, 1949.
Years later, Tim graduated Clay High School in 1967 and then served two years in the United States Army while being stationed in Germany.
He married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Craven, on July 16, 1969, and they were blessed with a beautiful daughter and two wonderful grandchildren during a marriage that spanned 53 years.
Tim began his working career as a journeyman carpenter having graduated the program alongside his two brothers-in-law, Alvin Jolley, and Bennie Craven. He then worked in the construction trade for several years until an opening became available teaching cabinet making at Lawtey Correctional Institute. Later, Tim became the Maintenance Director there in a career of over twenty years.
He ended his working career with the BOCC of Clay County, retiring in 2008.
Tim enjoyed a multitude of activities with his constant companion, Gloria, by his side. Surf fishing, horse shows, and vacation traveling were among his favorites. An avid golfer, Tim competed in and won many local scramble golf tournaments with his brothers and brother-in-law. When idle, you could find Tim at many retail outlets pursuing his other passion, scratch-off lottery tickets.
Craven Road holiday volleyball tournaments were legend in the community and co-captains Tim and Alvin, along with an everchanging line-up of aging seniors, went undefeated for many, many years against any and all upstart challengers.
Tim was also the family videographer during these holiday celebrations and his treasure trove of tapes are valued beyond measure today.
As a young adult, Tim attended the First Baptist Church in Green Cove Springs and was baptized into Christ there. Later, he and Gloria attended Sharon Baptist Church all of their married lives.
Tim will be remembered by all who knew him for the man he was…his uncompromising spirit and his love for others which he constantly shared.
He is preceded in death by his father, John C. Elswick, his mother, Mildred Charlene Jones, and his mother-in-law, Janie Craven.
Tim is survived by his loving wife, Gloria; his daughter, Sherrie Hall (Ricky); his grandson, Garrett Carlisle; his granddaughter, Kristen Carlisle; his brothers, Kenny Elswick and Jimmy Elswick (Sylvia); his sister, Jackie Elswick; his brothers-in-law, Alvin Jolley (Linda) and David Mills (Cathy Karen) along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:00am on Monday, August 1, 2022, in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 11:00am with Pastor David Mills officiating and burial and lunch will follow at Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery.
