In Loving Memory of Sofia Garofalo (January 27, 2003-May 12, 2025)

A bright and vibrant soul, Sofia Garofalo passed away on Monday, May 12th at the age of 22, still in the midst of discovering what she wanted to be when she grew up. Sofia was a force— passionate, brilliant, challenging, and true. She was funny, creative, and beautiful. Fiercely proud of her heritage, she embodied her Colombian and Italian roots in her spirited temperament and strong convictions.

Sofia loved her family deeply and she found joy in the smallest, simplest things. Often unconventional and curious, Sofia had a quick mind and sharp wit that wielded sarcasm as a superpower to bring either joy or correction. She challenged you when she felt it was needed and held her ground with passion and principle. Her family will miss this beautiful, radiant girl who brought us so much happiness. May the light of her soul bring comfort to those who knew her.

Sofia is the daughter of Maria Munoz and Bill Miller and of Michael Garofalo. She is loved deeply by her brothers Jacobo and Griffin. She is also the beloved granddaughter of Olga Angel Munoz of Manizales, Colombia and of Barry and Judy Garofalo of Gainesville, GA. Sofia found true love in her relationship with Nyland Bowles, to whom her family expresses their gratitude for his love, kindness and caring towards her.

Sofia is survived by her family whose love for her is boundless. She cherished her relationships with her Auntie Phyllis and all of her aunts and uncles: Donna and Chris, Patrick and Kelly, Laurie, Mauricio and Veronica, Adrianna and Davincho, Lew and Michael, Louise and Kevin, Shawn and DeeAnn, and Shelley and Eddie, as well as her cousins Josh, Kylie, Haley, Maddox, Joaquin, Samuel, Tomas, Mason, and Miles. Her cousins Ryan and Sierra preceded her in death and were waiting in heaven to greet her there.

Sofia was fortunate to have a family of friends who loved her as their own and participated in her upbringing, including the Pinzon family, the Krause family, the Pinzon-Cifuentes family and the Pedraza family. Their children were always in her heart, as she loved Valentina, Lucas, Nico, Gabi and Issa so very much. Thank you all for being such an important part of her life.

Sofia’s family will participate in a private viewing on Tuesday, May 20th. Her family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life in Georgia at a later date.
