In Loving Memory
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Shirley E. Sweat McLane, who died peacefully in her home in Drs. Inlet, Florida, on February 3, 2026. She had recently celebrated her 90th birthday with her sons. Shirley was a cherished member of the community, known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit.
Born on January 12, 1936, in Seville, Florida, Shirley was the daughter of Marguerite and Tuney R. (T.R.) Sweat. She graduated from Seville High School where she had played on the girls’ basketball team. Shirley worked at Wells Fargo Bank from which she retired after more than 20 years of service.
Throughout her life, Shirley touched the lives of everyone around her. She was devoted to her family and friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
A loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and mother-in-law, Shirley loved spending time with her family and traveling to her North Carolina cabin. She was an avid reader and enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles. Shirley also had a passion for yardwork and tending to her garden.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Michael McLane and Kenneth McLane, her grandchildren Travis McLane and Shayne McLane, her sister, Marlene Benwell and many loving relatives and friends. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in our hearts.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, George Brinson McLane, her sister Eleanor McCormick, and her brothers, Guy Sweat and Kenneth Sweat.
The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday, February 9, 2026, in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Reverend Bobby Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Decoy Cemetery. All who knew and loved Shirley are welcome to attend and celebrate her remarkable life.
After Shirley has been laid to rest, a celebration of life will be held at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Kathi McLane at 4530 Saddlehorn Trail in Middleburg.
Rest in peace, Shirley, your legacy of love and kindness will live on in all of us.
