Ruth W. Yant-Hammett

September 10, 1934 — March 26, 2023

Ruth W. Yant-Hammett, 88, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away March 26, 2023. She was born on September 10, 1934 in New Castle, PA to parents George and Florence (Badger) Wagner.  She graduated from Clairton H.S.- Clairton, PA and worked for Clay County Schools, Charles E. Bennett & Ridgeview Elementary schools 30+ years, as Librarian Asst.

Mrs. Hammett was a lifetime member and Ruling Elder of First Presbyterian Church PCUSA - G.C.S. Florida. She was awarded the Presbyterian Women Honorary Life Membership for her life of service to the church. She was also Past President of the V.I.A. of GCS and a member of Florida Women’s Clubs and the Clay High School Football Boosters Club – Treasurer.

She loved going to the beach at all times of the year! To get sun, relax & to feed the seagulls! She adored & collected figurines of Lighthouses, Eagles, songbirds & Holstein (black & white) cows.

She loved living on the St. Johns River and will be remembered as a loving, caring & devoted Wife, Mother, and Servant to the Lord. She valued traditions & always wanted to celebrate them with family & friends. She always thought of others before herself and gave to all like they were family. She loved to bake cookies, cakes and goodies and shared with all whenever she could. She faithfully served the church her entire life and was the “Hospitality Queen” for us all, she liked a great party! To many she was also “The Library Lady” for her 30+ years of work in Clay County elementary schools.

Mrs. Hammett was preceded in death by her father and mother, George & Florence Wagner; sister, Helen W. Barthe; son, Daniel E. Hammett; husbands, N.D. Yant Jr. and Dr. James H. Hammett.

She is survived by D. Scott Yant & Cindy Yant, Mark N. Yant & Heather Yant, James N. Hammett & Marylou Hammett, David M. Hammett & Kaye Hammett; Marylynn H. Martin & Robert Martin; Sherry Hammett and 11 grandchildren & 7 great grandchildren as well as her niece and nephew, Jean B. Strong and Wayne Barthe.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, April 3, 2023 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church of Green Cove Springs with Rev. Susan Takis, Rev. Dave Hammett and Rev. Rick Douylliez officiating.  Interment will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery. Reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall at the church.
