Portsmouth, VA Lodge #898

Russell Allen Haycock, 72, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, at the Moosehaven Health Care Center in Orange Park, Florida.

Born on July 3, 1954, in Portsmouth, Virginia, Russell was the son of Charles and Evelyn Haycock and the youngest of three children. His sister, Bonnie, fondly remembered him as a mischievous little brother who got away with a lot as the baby of the family. He always seemed to keep everyone laughing with his playful antics and unforgettable personality.

Russell became a member of Portsmouth Moose Lodge #898 on April 28, 1987, and was also a member of Moose Legion #199. Throughout his years of membership, he faithfully supported the Moose fraternity and formed countless lifelong friendships.

On July 26, 2021, Russell retired to Moosehaven, where he embraced the community and often said it had truly become his home. After returning to Virginia in January 2026 to visit family and attend the Virginia Moose Association Convention, he enjoyed seeing family and reconnecting with friends but remarked with a smile, "It's a nice place to visit, but it's time to get back home—Moosehaven."

Russell also was a proud as Sunshine Grandparent for Pearisburg Lodge #1338 and his home lodge, Portsmouth Lodge #898. The love and support he received from both lodges meant the world to him.

He is survived by his loving sister, Bonnie Tignor of Portsmouth, Virginia, along with many cherished friends throughout Virginia and his extended Moosehaven family.

Bonnie expressed what so many feel: "Russell, I love you and miss you, baby brother. Rest in peace until we meet again."

Russell will be remembered for his warm heart, quick sense of humor, loyal friendships, and the joy he brought to those who knew him. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and fellow Moose members.
