Ronald (Ron) Gene White, age 94 of Penney Farms, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026 at the Penney Retirement Community Pavilion. He was born on August 6, 1931 in Switz City, Indiana to the late Mary Fern (Haskett) White and Vern White. He was one of 7 children.
He is survived by his loving wife, Vivian Jeannette (Davis) White of 69 years, his 3 children, Robin White (Shelia) and Brenda (White) True (Jeff), Todd White (Amy), his 12 grandchildren; Tyler White (Casey), Jordan Hines (Matt), Kristin (White) Key (Tim), Doug White (Samantha), Kyle True, Chad True, Andy True, Carrie (True) Larkin, Will True (Cassie), Evan White, Sara White, Laura White, and 17 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Claudia (White) Grounds and Nila Rose (White) Hasler.
In addition to his parents, Ron is preceded in death by his son Kevin Vern White, his brothers Jimmy White and Nerius (Nit) White, his sisters Joyce Sue Summers and Mary Ann Wilcoxon, and his great-great grandchild, Nolan Johnson.
Ron graduated from Bloomfield High School, Class of 1949, in Bloomfield Indiana and then went on to serve 4 years in the United States Air Force where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. On completion of his military service, Ron graduated from Indiana State University earning a bachelor’s degree in Education and master’s degree in Biological Science. Ron dedicated 36 years of teaching at Gosport High School in Gosport,Indiana, Martinsville, High School in Martinsville, Indiana, Edgewood High School and Edgewood Junior HIgh School in Ellettsville, Indiana. In addition to teaching Biology, Industrial Arts, Health / PE, he also taught Driver’s Education and coached basketball and track and field. On January 9, 2015, he was honored along with his varsity basketball team on the 50th anniversary of the first game played at Edgewood High School.
During Ron’s childhood, he enjoyed fishing and this passion continued into his adult years where he not only fished with his many friends but also taught his grandchildren to fish. He had a passion for playing golf and tennis. After Jeff, his son-in-law taught him the game of tennis, Ron enjoyed playing in many leagues and local tournaments. In his leisure time, he was also an avid gardener and spent many hours in his shop completing woodworking projects. Ron will be remembered for his likable personality, his ability to make friends easily and for his genuine caring attitude toward others. He always delighted in hearing from his former students and players and maintained close relationships with many throughout the years.
A small private graveside service will be held at a later date in Chambersville Cemetery located in Spencer, IN. Ron and Jeannette were members of First Baptist Church in Ellettsville, IN. before moving to Florida.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the many caregivers at Penney Farms Beyer House Assisted Living facility, the Penney Farms Pavilion for Health Care and the hospice staff where loving care and compassion were shown to Ron the last several years of his life.
