Reba was born on February 16, 1934 to Clyde and Evelyn Jackson in San Angelo, Texas. She had two younger sisters, Wanda (deceased) and Linda. Her family lived in various cities and towns across Texas. She also lived with her grandparents in Blackwell, Texas and had fond memories of life with them on their farm.
In her teen years, Reba enjoyed school and participated in band playing the clarinet and performing as a majorette in marching band. She graduated from high school in San Angelo, Texas.
Reba married Hudson Bryan Price on September 20, 1952 and they had three children; Jack (1954), Janet (1956), and Craig (1958). Bryan’s career in the Navy took the family from California to Florida and places in between. Because of numerous moves, Reba adapted and made friends quickly in new places. As the children grew, Reba participated in their lives by sewing dance costumes, teaching Sunday School, and attending many ball games, concerts and school activities.
Reba worked in various fields when her children were older, eventually earning her real estate license. She worked for several large real estate firms in Orange Park.
Reba met Horace Albert Johnson (Al) through his son Kevin who also was in real estate at the time. Reba and Al married on October 17, 1981 in a beautiful backyard ceremony. Al introduced her to sailing and they enjoyed many hours on the St Johns River. Reba and Al lived in several homes on Fleming Island. When Al passed in 2007, Reba moved to Orange Park where she lived until moving to Penney Retirement Community.
While Reba lived independently at PRC, she volunteered in the frame shop and helped in assisted living. Four years ago, she moved to Beyer House (assisted living) and eventually to Hagen Care Center (memory care).
Reba expressed herself creatively as a visual artist throughout her adult life, including through painting and photography. Always striving to learn and improve, she took classes and workshops, painting with oil, acrylics and eventually watercolors. Her subject matter included lighthouses, landscapes, nature and flowers…lots of flowers. She was active in the Orange Park Art Guild and showed her work at various locations.
Reba also had a special place in her heart for her pets. When one passed, she immediately adopted another furry friend. Cricket, Max, Minnie, Scruffy and Pepper were her constant companions.
Reba also loved genealogy and left her family quite a legacy of information from her many years of research.
Reba is preceded in death by her parents, sister Wanda and husband Al Johnson. She is survived by her son Jack Price (Duan Rong), daughter Janet Cunningham (Rich Cunningham) and son Craig Price (Tamera Lowe). Reba is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life for Reba Johnson will be held on Saturday, June 21 at 2:30 PM Penney Memorial Church on the campus of Penney Retirement Community Penney Farms, Florida
