Raymond (Ray) E. Rohr, Jr., 77, passed away from cancer complicated by Alzheimer’s on October 28, 2025, at his home in Green Cove Springs, Florida.
Ray was born on February 5, 1948, in Watseka, Illinois, to Raymond E. Rohr, Sr., and Irene Bretzman Rohr, both now deceased.
Ray was a student in the Onarga, Illinois, school system and graduated from there in 1966, and from Southern Illinois University in 1970. In 1974, Ray married Nancy Taff Rohr in Memphis, Tennessee. Throughout their working lives, they lived in Memphis, Raleigh, NC, Miami, FL, Cabot, AR, and the Jacksonville, FL area.
Ray was a manufacturer’s representative for large meat companies such as Oscar Mayer, Hebrew National Kosher and Buddig. After his retirement, he became a child abuse investigator for the state of Florida for several years.
Ray will be remembered by his many friends and family for his quick wit and caring nature, and his love of the Chicago Cubs and Bears. While living in Miami, Ray developed a life-long love of boating. Over the years he had several boats and named all of them the “Happy Gizzard.” A lover of dogs, Ray particularly mourned the passing of his favorite dog, Austin, who was his constant companion and porch buddy.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents Don and Irene Burnett, and his sisters, Shirley Wetmore and Sandra Eshleman. He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Nancy, his daughter Ronnie-Clare Blevins, grandchildren Sophia Irene Maurer and Spencer Raymond Maurer, and their father, Glenn Judson Maurer, all of Green Cove Springs, Florida. He is also survived by sisters Barbara Thorne and Peggy Denniston of Tennessee, and Christine Barham of Illinois, as well as many nieces and nephews
A memorial service and celebration of Ray’s life will be held on November 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM, in St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 400 St. Johns Avenue, Green Cove Springs, Florida 32043.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ray’s memory to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church or Community Hospice of NE Florida.
