Commander Michael J. Ryan, age 72, United States Navy (ret). Passed away on March 10th, 2026, in Orange Park, FL. CDR Ryan was born in Hollywood, FL and lived for a few years in Lynn and Revere (Point of Pines), MA. He attended elementary schools at St. Thomas More in Arlington, VA and St. James in Falls Church, VA. He graduated from Mayfair High School in Lakewood, CA as Senior Class President. He enlisted in the US Navy as a Quartermaster, then was selected as a Master at Arms and then as a Security Officer. CDR Ryan’s Navy career spanned 42 years, and he saw service on the USS NEW (DD 818); USS Mobile (LKA 115); CINCPACFLT; HQEUCOM; CENTCOM; HQNCIS; CINCLANTFLT; Navy Regions SW, SE MA and NDW; White House Office of Military Affairs among others. He spent two years in the US Coast Guard Reserve in Port Security. CDR Ryan served 16 years Enlisted and 28 years as a Commissioned Officer.
CDR Ryan earned his BA from the University of Redlands, CA and his MPA from the University of La Verne, CA. CDR Ryan also retired from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff III. CDR Ryan is survived by his son Matthew of Orange Park, FL and daughter Catharine of Raleigh, NC.
A viewing for family and friends will be held on April 11th, 2026 from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM in the Broadus-Raines Chapel.
