Melissa Wilson Church of Keystone Heights, FL passed away on August 5, 2021. Melissa was born to Rosalie Spencer Canady and Myron “Mick” Wilson on January 15, 1960. Melissa graduated from Orange Park High School. She married David Calvin Church on May 5, 1979. She lovingly worked as a wife, mother and grandmother. Melissa was a Sunday school teacher at the Green Cove Springs Congregational Holiness Church for 39 plus years, teaching countless young children through those years the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her brother (Myron “Mickey” Wilson) And Father Myron “Mick” Wilson. Survived by her mother, Rosalie Spencer Canady, two sisters, Patricia Wilson and Judith Wilson, Husband, David Church, sons, David Church II, Jonathan Church and daughter Sarah Church Whitehead, Daughter in-laws Amanda Turk Church, Lindsay Mckibben Church, Son in-law Mikell Whitehead, Grandchildren, Luke Church, Layla Church, Ethan Church and Emma Church, all residing in the North Florida area.
Melissa will be remembered for her unconditional love for family and the Lord. She loved and gave of herself in more ways than can be mentioned. It was her joy in life to help others. She knew all the good thrift stores in North Florida, and it brought her great joy to find a deal on something nice that someone could use. She never wanted to throw away anything because she would always say “so and so might could use that”. She loved to cook, especially at church and family get-togethers. Also, she enjoyed cooking for families who experienced loss, much like we are experiencing now. She loved to talk, as anyone who met her immediately realized. She very much enjoyed plants and gardening and was very good at it. So many winter evenings were spent covering her big plants and bringing the small ones in from the cold. Her fishpond, fountain and huge abundance of plants were where she loved to spend time while at home. She also enjoyed her work at the Clay County Elections office where she worked for over 20 years. This last year was spent caring for her husband, our wonderful father, after his accident. She was more precious to our family than words can describe. The void left in our hearts will never be filled as long as we live on this earth. However, her life was dedicated to the Lord and we have the assurance that one day we will be reunited with her in Heaven. She would want us all to know she is with the Lord, and to make sure our hearts are right with Him, so we can see her again one day.
A private family service will be held later this week. Clergy will include her pastor of 40 years, Reverend Ronnie Surrency and her son, Reverend Jonathan Church.
