In Loving Memory of
Mary J. Kuhn
June 27, 1944 – June 30, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary J. Kuhn, age 79, surrounded by her husband and her two daughters on Friday June 30, 2023.
Mary was born in Sidmouth, Devon England on June 27, 1944 to her biological father Melvin James and Edith Mariah Langdon. Mary was raised by her stepdad, Frank Phillips, who she knew and loved as her Dad, alongside her brothers Maurice and Leslie and her sister Janice.
Mary graduated from Nursing School in England in 1964 and then in 1965 she came to America to begin her nursing career at Highland Park Hospital located in Highland Park, north of Chicago, Illinois.
While celebrating her birthday in 1967, she met a guy from West Virginia named Jim, who was in the US Navy. They were subsequently married on March 2, 1968 and moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1970 and then to Clay County in 1984. Their union produced two daughters, Melissa and Nicole.
Mary was a very talented lady. She was an excellent bowler and golfer, she really enjoyed traveling in her RV and taking cruises to anywhere. Mary loved her Florida Gators (football and basketball) and her Jacksonville Jaguars. She loved doing remodeling projects around the home, inside or out, she would tackle anything. Mary loved scrap-booking her travels and adventures for all to see. She loved all animals, particularly her Labradors and horses. She especially enjoyed guiding and helping her daughters and granddaughter during their equestrian careers.
Mary was very proud of her British heritage, but was even more proud of her America citizenship which she attained in 2000, during which she aced the required Citizenship test. She broke down and cried on the way home from the swearing in ceremony because she was so thankful to be a United States citizen. Mary had very strong convictions and was someone who would stand up for what she thought was right. She raised her two daughters instilling those same values.
Mary Kuhn sincerely loved her family, who were her world - her husband Jim of 55 years, her two daughters, Melissa and Nicole and their husbands, Mike and Chris, Britain her step grandson and particularly her granddaughter, Amelia.
Mary wanted a small, private service with her immediate family, which we will be honoring. It will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery with Tina Sweet officiating.
