Mary Catherine Howell was born on May 29th, 1933 in Jacksonville, FL to her loving parents Joshua Nelson and Hattie West. Mary passed away peacefully and went home to be with Jesus on the morning of November 21st, 2025, she was surrounded by loving family who supported her through the last days of her life here. Mary was a very loving and caring wife, mother, granny, and friend, she was also a faithful member of the Doctors Inlet Church of God for 56 years. She spent most of her life as a devoted homemaker, but she did serve as a nurse’s aide at St. Vincent’s Riverside Hospital for a short time.

Mary earned the name Little Granny from her grandkids not because of her stature alone, but because she had a big heart, a lot of spirit, and was a little feisty if she needed to be. She was also the family meteorologist, if you needed a weather report, she had it. Mary had a lot of things to be proud of in her life, but her greatest accomplishment is being able to be a faithful light for Jesus and winning her husband of 42 years, James Fielding Howell for Jesus and seeing him saved after many years of praying for him.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband James Fielding Howell; parents Joshua Nelson and Hattie West; Son, James Boe Howell; Sisters, Lucy Ann Mosley and Mary Dell Green; Twin Brothers Josh and Bobby West; and Great-grandson Carson Fielding Whitaker. Mary is survived by her Daughters Linda Bolman and her husband Roger; Kathy Whitaker and her husband Leonard; and Betty Ann Howell; Daughter-in-law Mary Howell; Sister-in-law Louise West; Nine grandchildren, Twenty-three great-grandchildren, and Eight great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Catherine Howell will be greatly missed by her friends and family but will always be remembered for the wonderful woman that she was, and thankful to know she has finally finished her race here and made it to her forever home in Heaven.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 29th, 2025 at 12:00PM at Doctors Inlet Church of God. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00PM, followed by burial at Riverside Memorial Park at 3:00PM.
