Mackenzie Helena Cumbo, 16, of Fleming Island, Florida

Alpha: 02/18/2010 — Omega: 03/24/2026

Mackenzie Helena Cumbo, 16, of Fleming Island, Florida, passed away on March 24, 2026, after losing her battle with mental health.

Mackenzie was her father’s daughter—beautiful, sassy, strong-willed, and completely unapologetically herself. She spoke her mind, stood her ground, and loved hard. She had a light in her that you couldn’t ignore. When she walked into a room, you felt it. When she smiled, it stayed with you. And if you were hurting, she had a way of making you feel like you mattered… like you weren’t alone.

She loved music—it was part of who she was. She played the clarinet and had just started learning guitar. She wrote, she felt deeply, and she expressed herself in ways that most people are too afraid to. She loved animals, especially Zeus—who I’m sure met her at the gates of Heaven—and our Great Dane, Freya.

She loved the outdoors and the moments that meant the most—fishing and scalloping with her dad, and the time she spent with her Pop, whom she loved fiercely. She also loved softball, art, and horror movies—things that brought out her personality and made her who she was. Those simple moments were everything to her… and they are everything to me now.

She loved her siblings fiercely, but there was something special about the way she loved her baby brother, Kanaan. It was pure, protective, and full of pride. That was who she was—she loved her people with everything she had.

Mackenzie loved to read. Where the Crawdads Sing was something she and her father shared a love for together. She also fell in love with Fourth Wing, thanks to her Aunt Katie. She was an old soul, drawn to the millennial era—something she connected to deeply, maybe because her dad was part of it. She loved the music, the movies, the feeling of it. Stranger Things was one of her favorites, and she and her father had plans to watch Game of Thrones together—she loved the books, and it was something they looked forward to sharing.

She was a sophomore at Citizens High School in Fleming Island and had also attended Middleburg High School and Fleming Island High School. But more than anything, she was someone who cared. She noticed people. She showed up for them. Whether it was a kind word, a small gesture, or just being there—she made sure no one felt invisible.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Sharon Koon; paternal great-great-grandmothers, Evelyn Cumbo, Nita Koon, and Wanda Matchett; and her maternal grandmother, Wynette Bainbridge.

She is survived by her father and stepmother, Brandon and Karina Cumbo; her mother, Kristina Carson; paternal grandparents, Audrey Walker (Bobby) and Donnie Cumbo (Amy); abuelos paternos, Carmen and Jorge Buergo; maternal grandparents, Chuck Bainbridge and Kathleen Guerra; her siblings, Corbin, Kanaan, Everleigh Cumbo, and Raelyn Wells; paternal great-grandparents, Bobby and Ernestine Cumbo; her paternal aunt, Katelyn Cumbo (Richard); her paternal uncle, Ryan Cumbo; so many cousins, family members, friends, and people whose lives she touched in her short but meaningful life.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Friday, April 10, 2026, in the Broadus-Raines Chapel.

Funeral services will take place at 11:00am on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at C.H. Price Middle School Gymnasium in Interlachen.

Mackenzie will be laid to rest beside her beloved Granny G at Hollister Sweetwater Cemetery immediately following the service.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 PM at Brock Hall in Hollister, with limited seating of 100.

“The love between a parent and child does not end—it only changes form.”

Now and forever, you will always be my little girl.
