Linda Ann Hodges

Listen to Obituary

Linda Ann Hodges (née Taylor) was welcomed into the presence of her Savior on September 26, 2025. She was born on February 14, 1950 to Homer and Willia Mae (Griffis) Taylor. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, David Hodges, her three sons and daughters-in-law; David Jr. and Cara, Daniel and Amy, and Douglas and Janan, her 10 grandchildren, one great-grandson, and another on the way.

After graduating from Paxon High School in 1968, Linda was the first member of her family to attend and graduate college. She received her degree with honors in education from Jacksonville University where the dogwoods were pretty and the squirrels were friendly. For almost 30 years, she helped students start their education journey as a kindergarten teacher at Normandy Elementary School, where she was awarded Teacher of the Year in 1994. In addition to teaching in Duval County Public Schools, she was the Director of the 5-year-old Sunday School class at First Coast Baptist Church, where she was a lifelong member since the days it was called Beaver Street Baptist. She sang soprano in the choir for years, and on occasion would play the piano.

Linda had a love for children, especially her own. Much of her afternoons were spent at ball parks cheering on and supporting her kids. Her kids knew they had a really good hit when they heard their mom’s scream on their way to first! Being a mom, and later a grandmother and great-grandmother, were roles she cherished.

Her retirement years had her take on the role of caregiver for her father and her mother. In honoring her parents, she also provided a powerful example to her children and grandchildren on how to sacrificially care for a loved one.

As her memory was failing her in her later years, the presence of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild were always a source of joy for her. She was loved as much as she was loving and was laughing and smiling with new friends moments before her passing.

Linda will be missed by all who knew her, and her impact for the Kingdom of God carries on through her own children, and the many she taught in public school and Sunday School throughout her life.

Joshua 24:15: choose you this day whom ye will serve; …but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
