Leona Gene Hall Appel passed away at Haven Hospice

on Easter, April 1 2018. She was born January 26,

1936 in Parkersburg WV to the late William Beckwith

Hall and Beulah Garnet Whitecotton Hall. Mrs. Appel

has been a resident of the area since 1997 coming

from Maryland and was a parishioner of Sacred

Heart Catholic Church.

Mrs. Appel was a retired school nurse serving 3

different elementary schools in Prince Georges

County Maryland for 20 years. Upon her relocation

to Florida she was a volunteer first in the library at

Paterson Elementary School, then the

attendance and front offices at Lakeside Junior High

from 1997 to 2008. She enjoyed spending time with

family, sitting on the sidelines at her grandchildren's

sports practices and games, cooking and baking, traveling,

playing dominoes, reading and the company of

her adored chihuahua, Duke.

She is and will always be a beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law,

Grandmother and great-grandmother. Leona is preceded in death

by her devoted and loving husband, Richard Benjamin

Appel, her parents, including her stepfather, Howard

Parsons, and her half-brother, William Harold Hall.

Mrs. Appel is survived by her daughter Sandra D. B.

Ault (James) son, William "Greg" Appel, daughter, Cynthia

L. Garcia (Javier); 8 grandchildren, Nicole, Shane,

Brian, Scott, Eric, Zachary, Michael and Steven; 3

great-grandchildren, Juliana, Gregory and Brayden.

Funeral services will be celebrated at 3:00 pm Saturday, April 14, 2018

in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Fr. Donal Sullivan as celebrant. 

The family will receive friends in the chapel from 2:00 pm until service time.

Graveside service will be held at 10:30 am Monday, April 16, 2018 at

Bosque Bello Cemetery in Fernandina Beach, FL.

While flowers will be kindly accepted, in lieu of

flowers donations may be made to Haven Hospice.
