Kay Eileen Fertig

June 11, 1938 — September 24, 2021

Kay Eileen (Zerby) Fertig passed away on September 24, 2021.  She was born to William H. Zerby and Helen May Evans Zerby on June 11, 1938 in Ashland, PA.  Kay graduated from Ashland High School in 1956 and was married to William R. Fertig.  She was a charter member of Advent Lutheran Church of Orange Park, FL, a life member of VFW#5968 of Orange Park, FL and North Florida Darting Association. 

Kay enjoyed crocheting, word puzzles and shooting darts.  She will be remembered for her love of family and her strong faith in God. Kay was loving and kind natured and had the ability to listen when needed and then give support or advice, sometimes both.  She was a great and loving mother to her children.  A loving, playful and kind grandmother to her four grandchildren and too her great-grandchildren along with being a great sister, aunt and friend.

Kay is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ron Zerby.  She was survived by her daughter, Susan R. Fertig who passed shortly after on October 6, 2021.  Kay is also survived by her son, Wayne W. Fertig (Susan L.) of Gretna, LA; siblings, Shirl Hain of Pottstown, PA, Jan White of Hegins, PA and Wayne Zerby of Ashland, PA;  grandchildren, Joanna Burchett of Zanesville, OH, Dustin Fertig (Nikki) of Jacksonville, FL, Michael Jones of Orange Park, FL and Amber Rosario of Dyersburg, TN; great-grandchildren, Jazymne, Scarlett, Gwen, Mason, Hannah, Hunter, Kerinsa, Paige and Kathryn; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; lifelong best friend, Ruthann Himelwright of Southwest Rancher, FL and a multitude of friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30pm on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Advent Lutheran Church with Pastor Ross Worch officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to St. Jude’s Hospital, Shriner’s Hospital, the USO, Advent Lutheran Church of Orange Park, FL or Paralyzed Veterans.
