Katherine Antoinette McMenamy

July 27, 1930 — March 22, 2024

Katherine Antoinette McMenamy died peacefully March 22, 2024. Katherine was born in Yorkville, Manhattan, New York City on July 27, 1930, the only child of Charles and Alice Rita (Degnan) Henry. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 71 years, William Joseph McMenamy, Jr. (Bill). She is survived by her two children, Ellen McMenamy and William B. McMenamy (Debbie), step grandchildren Nita Hurley (Ian), Ali Sinden (Blake) and Reid Sinden, step great-grandchildren, Ellie, Liam and Nita, sisters-in-law Olga and Janet and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.

Katherine attended St. Joseph’s grade school and St. Jean Baptiste Girls Catholic High School in Manhattan. Katherine resided in Manhattan until her marriage in 1952 to Bill, the love of her life.  After their marriage, Bill and Katherine honeymooned in Jacksonville Beach and decided to make their home in Jacksonville, where both of their children were born. They were parishioners of St. Paul’s Catholic Church (Riverside) for a few years and later, St. Matthew’s Catholic Church for almost 30 years. In 1984, they moved to Green Cove Springs and became parishioners of St. Luke’s Catholic Church (Middleburg) for a few years after which they joined Sacred Heart Catholic Church (Green Cove Springs/Fleming Island) where they have been parishioners ever since.

Katherine was an active parishioner while at St. Matthew’s. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Women’s Circle and, for many years, supervised the cleaning and pressing of the church’s altar linens. She was also a volunteer at St. Vincent’s Hospital for several years where she and other volunteers would go from room to room providing patients and their families with snacks and refreshments. Katherine’s life was epitomized by the word give but never the word take. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, sister-in-law, grandma, aunt and friend. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her “gift of gab” and her wonderful sense of humor.

A funeral mass in memory of and celebration of Katherine’s life will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 7190 Highway 17 South, Fleming Island, FL 32003 on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Katherine’s memory may be made to Challenge Enterprises of North Florida, Inc., 3530 Enterprise Way, Green Cove Springs, FL 32043 or Community Hospice & Palliative Care, 4689 Hwy 17, Fleming Island, FL 32003.
