Terry Joyce Smith Hamilton, age 83, a longtime resident of Lavonia, GA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at Haven – Custead Hospice Care Center in Orange Park, FL. Born on July 12, 1942, in Gainesville, GA, Joyce was the daughter of the late Loy and Dair Barrett Smith.
After graduating from high school, Joyce attended Young Harris College from which she graduated with a AA degree. Above all else, Joyce loved and lived for her family having had two wonderful marriages of 25-plus years, two children, three step-children, and ten grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
Joyce was a devoted member of the Lavonia United Methodist Church, having been a member in childhood and then again when she returned to Lavonia years later. Joyce had a passion for animals, having had many beloved pets throughout her life. Joyce also enjoyed cooking, antiquing and collecting anything blue, including her many glass pitchers, glasses, and plates. She and her husband, Rich, loved to travel the country visiting national parks and other places of interest.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Marion Hamilton, as well as her first husband, John Marvin Hall and step-daughter, Amanda Williams. She is survived by her children, Andy Hall (Machelle) and Courtney Ross (Gerald). She is also survived by her bonus-children, Melissa Fort (Ken Burton) and Angela Henley (Kyle). Joyce's legacy is carried on by her grandchildren, Ansley and Adam Poole; Darion and Destyni Hamilton; Vic, Bianca and Julia Fort; and Austin, Bryce and Kamryn Henley.
A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at a later date. In accordance with her request, she was cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to Haven – Custead Hospice Care Center, 745 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, FL 32065 (havenhospice.com/donate) or to the charity of one’s choice.
