Jerry A. Trumble

February 6, 1930 — November 30, 2023

Jerry Alan Trumble passed peacefully early in the morning of November 30th, 2023.

Peacefully indeed. During his last month he told everyone he saw, “He had a wonderful life with no regrets” and “he was happy he could go out on his terms”.

Born to Jesse Trumble and Mary Jane Johnston on February 6th, 1930 in the little town of Watseka, Illinois. He was the youngest of 5 brothers and sisters. 16 years after his oldest sister Bea, he often referred to himself as “the mistake”.

Jerry began working at an early age with his father on construction projects in Watseka. These skills carried throughout his life.

Whenever friends or relatives needed help with anything around the house, he was there. The projects just popped up whenever he came to visit. A true humanitarian, he always said yes. Later after retirement he worked with Habitat for Humanity.

With the beginning of the Korean War, in 1950 Jerry enlisted in the Air Force. Afterwards upon returning to Watseka

in June of 1952, he married Dorothy Potter, who he had met two years prior. In need of a job which paid better than construction, he re-enlisted in the Air Force until his retirement in 1976.

During this time, they had three children, in three different locations, Susan (Illinois), Steven (England), and Stuart (Nebraska). After retirement, Jerry took a civil service job with NAS in Jacksonville, FL from 1976 till 1996.

Upon retirement from civil service life, Jerry and Dorothy enjoyed traveling around the US and abroad, to the places they haven’t had a chance to see yet, until her death in 2009.

When he finally slowed down, he enjoyed playing cards and telling stories with friends. He was also an avid reader.

Never much for a lack of social life, he later joined on as a volunteer with Orange Park Medical Center until 2022.

He was preceded in death by all of his siblings, Beatrice,

Grace, Lucille, and Howard as well as his wife Dorothy 2009, and youngest son Stuart 2012. He is survived by his daughter Susan and oldest son Steven, two grandchildren, Brandon and Kathryn, and seven great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Hannah, Meredith, Charlotte, Alexander, Olivia and Madison, whom he met two weeks before his passing.

There was no mistake about him. He was always there for anyone who needed anything. Whether it was as a volunteer, a smile, or just a laugh. Ask anyone who ever met him, he was Jerry the joker, a gifted storyteller. A man who gave all he had for his family. Hopefully he knew how much he was loved.

A special thanks is warranted for all his friends and staff at Orange Park Medical Center and Allegro/Fleming Island, as well as Haven Hospice Orange Park.
