Howard Brenton Walsh Jr. “Jay” of Fleming Island, Florida passed away Saturday November 15th 2025.

Born to Howard B Walsh Sr. and Margaret Schurzy Walsh on August 12, 1952 in Framingham, Massachusetts. Jay graduated from Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Shortly thereafter he began his career at Florida Power and Light. He was very passionate about his career and was well known as “Ray Jay” and respected throughout FPL. After dedicating 47 years to the company as a foreman and instructor he retired in 2021.

Jay married the love of his life Tia Warren on September 7th 1974. They lived in Plantation, FL for fifty years before deciding to move to Fleming Island with their family in 2024. He thoroughly enjoyed his boat, fishing and time with his family. Family vacations were the highlight of Jay’s year. More than anything he loved spending time with his grandchildren. In his younger days he was a Scoutmaster with Boy Scouts of America.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Margaret Walsh, his in-laws Richard and Nina Warren, and his sister Laurie Hill. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Christine “Tia” Walsh, their children Elizabeth (Danny) Shefferman of Fleming Island, FL and Jeffery Walsh of St Augustine, FL, grandchildren Shelby (Kevin) Dechert of Savannah, GA and Ryder Shefferman of Fleming Island. His sisters Susan Jacobs of Quartsite, AZ and Bobbie Flash, husband Joe Zdanowicz of Lighthouse Point, FL.

He will be remembered for his strength, patience, kindness and guidance. He was a wonderful husband, father, “PopPop”, brother, and friend.

A memorial service for Jay will be held at 11:00am on Monday, November 24th, 2025 at Broadus-Raines Funeral Home, 501 Spring St Green Cove Springs, FL 32043. The Rev. Randall R. Warren will be officiating.
