In Loving Memory of Janet L. Mauldin

Janet L. Mauldin, 73, of Callahan, Florida, passed away peacefully at her home on August 2, 2026. Born in Orange Park on December 4, 1952, Janet was a lifelong Floridian and spent 58 years in Green Cove Springs. She graduated from Clay High School in 1970 and later from St. Johns River College. Janet devoted 35 years to the Clay County School Board, working in accounting and property control before retiring.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Don H. Miller and Alma Miller (Knowles); her brother, Donal D. Miller "Duck"; Brother-in-law Stephen Prevatt, niece, Tanya Hoppis of Arkansas, and her husband, Michael L. Mauldin.

She is survived by her brother, Steven Q. Miller; sister-in-law Teresia Miller of Arkansas, sister, Carolann Prevatt (Miller); nephew, Travis Prevatt, son, Marcus Meyer; daughter-in-law, Emilia Meyer; daughter, Ryann Wertz; and her beloved grandchildren, Mason Meyer, 25, and Sophia Meyer, 17. Janet is also survived by many cousins as well as her late husband Michael's parents, Jack and Harriet Mauldin of High Springs.

Janet's greatest joys were her family, gardening, capturing new recipes to cook up, and her love of animals—especially horses. Horses were a lifelong passion, beginning in childhood and continuing through her many years of riding, owning, and competitively showing. Prior to retirement, she and Michael fulfilled their dream of creating a home and horse pasture where she continued caring for animals and helping horses and dogs find loving homes.

In her younger years, Janet enjoyed competitive tennis and was active in local leagues throughout Clay County. She was a member of Eastern Star and generously supported St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and numerous animal rescue organizations. Her compassion, generosity, and willingness to help others were simply part of who she was.

Those who knew Janet will remember her strong personality, warmth, humor, passion for American history, competitive spirit, and remarkable ability to make friends wherever she went. She never met a stranger and could turn a simple conversation into a lasting friendship.

Above all, Janet was a lifelong Christian whose belief in Jesus Christ was at the center of her life. Her placing a Bible in every bedroom of her house, reflected the importance of her relationship with the Lord and her faith in eternal life.

Janet leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, and compassion. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her memory will live on through her children, grandchildren, family, friends, and the many people whose lives she touched.

Until we meet again, may she rest peacefully in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A memorial service will be held in Janet's honor on Thursday, August 20th at 11:00AM in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. Friends are welcome to arrive starting at 10:00AM. Graveside to immediately follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery. A luncheon will be served following the graveside service at Hickory Grove Cemetery. The luncheon is being prepared by the grievance committee at Hickory Grove Baptist church. Any and all attendees of Janet's service are welcome to come and join the family.
