Born May 5, 1937, in Rome, Georgia, to Eugene and Margaret McCurry, Jane graduated from Rome High (1955); received an AB degree from Asbury College in Kentucky (1959); and a master's degree from the University of Louisville (1974).

While at Asbury, Jane met Charles Music, a ministerial student, and they married on August 15, 1959. Jane came to know Jesus personally as a teenager and fulfilled her dream of being a pastor's wife when she married Charles. After his theological education, he became a Methodist minister, affiliating with the Louisville Annual Conference in Kentucky.

In 1964, two years after completing theology school, Charles and Jane moved to Edinburgh, Scotland, for Charles’ further study at New College of University of Edinburgh. They spent the prior summer traveling throughout Europe and the Soviet Union. Their first child, Scot, was born while living in Edinburgh. Heather, their daughter, was born after they returned to Kentucky where Charles continued in ministry.

Jane ministered along with Charles as he pastored and served the conference on various levels throughout central and western Kentucky. She filled needs in local churches and held offices on the district and conference levels, as God led. Throughout their frequent moves for Charles’ ministry, Jane taught in local public elementary and secondary schools, wherever there was an opening. With degrees in elementary education, home economics, English, and speech, Jane taught every level except first grade during her teaching career.

After retirement from public school teaching, Jane worked and taught classes in clothing construction and home decor to youth and adults for ten years at Baer Fabrics, a large family-owned store in Louisville. She also worked in sales of fine fabrics, helping to plan wedding attire and displaying her own clothing creations using their designer fabrics. While working at Baer’s, she was provided a studio for offering color analysis to clients. These ten years were the most enjoyable and rewarding of Jane’s career, because she was teaching in the area of her first love. Jane continued to sew creative and elegant clothing until the last few years of her life.

During her final years in Louisville, while caring for her elderly mother and for Charles, who suffered from mixed dementia, three things were particularly dear to Jane's heart. First, the sacrifice of her daughter, Heather, and her family, who lived with them for two years, providing support and helping with the care of her dad and grandmother while on furlough from the mission field. The second was Bible Study Fellowship International, which deeply enriched her faith and love of God's Word, giving her strength for the challenges of Charles' care. Lastly, she cherished the support of her Alzheimer's Support Group, as she cared for Charles, who suffered from vascular dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease, as well as Lewy body dementia.

Due to Charles' declining health, Jane and Charles moved to Abilene, Texas in 2008, to be near Scot and family. Charles was placed in an Alzheimer's care facility, and Jane, once again, was supported by BSF International and friends at an Alzheimer's Support Group, as well as by their faithful son, Scot, and family, and her church, Wylie Methodist.

In 2012, a year after Charles’ death, Jane moved to Penney Retirement Community (PRC) in Florida, where she volunteered in many areas of service in the community and the church. She especially served as a support for those whose lives had been affected by various forms of dementia. From the time Charles’ story of dementia and Jane’s caregiving was chronicled in the Courier-Journal (2004 – 2008), Jane was a sought-after resource to strangers, acquaintances, and friends who needed practical guidance in caring for a loved one with dementia.

Jane was blessed with deep friendships at PRC, ones that brought much joy and support in her 14 years of residence. During her first year there, Jane met Donald Scofield, an American Baptist minister, whom she married in 2013 with the support of her family and new friends. They shared five happy years together before Don met his Savior.

Jane’s family will cherish their memories of a loving mother, grandmother, and sister who carried them in prayer, gave generously of her resources, and loved Jesus above all.

Jane is survived by her son, Scot Music (Stephanie); daughter, Heather Gentry (Eric); grandchildren, Laura Kate, Abby, Aliya, and Caleb; and brother, Steve McCurry. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands, Rev. Dr. Charles Music and Rev. Donald Scofield.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Penney Memorial Church in Penney Farms, Florida on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Jane will be buried in Louisville with Charles, her husband of 51 years.
