Jacob "Mervin" Breneman

We announce the passing of Jacob Mervin (Merv) Breneman, 95, at the Pavilion for Healthcare in Penney Farms, Florida, July 25, 2025. Merv was born in Lancaster, PA. He was preceded in death by parents, Clyde Breneman and Mary Ann Oberholtzer and his four siblings.

He completed the Agriculture Course at Lampeter High School. His deep love and commitment for Jesus, the Bible and scholarship sent him to Moody Bible Institute and Wheaton University to prepare for Bible teaching. Later he earned a PhD at Brandeis University. Under the Latin America Mission, he taught Old Testament studies for seminaries in Costa Rica and Argentina for 50 years.

Surviving is his wife, Dona; son, James (Noemi) in Costa Rica; daughter, Laura and family in Argentina and son, Daniel (Karla) in Ecuador.  he was preceded in death by his siblings, Verna Leaman, Mary Jane Eby, Barbara Ann Hurd and Paul Breneman.

The family plans a private memorial interment later in Lancaster County, PA.
