Howard L. Darnell, 86, of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021. He was one of ten children and was born on June 10, 1935, in Glen, WV to parents Lee and Addie Darnell. Mr. Darnell moved to the area in 1955 from West Virginia. Howard spent 21 years with the United States Navy including two tours in Vietnam. He retired in 1972 as a Chief Petty Officer before embarking on his second career. Howard went on to work for the Clay County Sherriff’s office initially as a correctional officer and then as a Bailiff for Judge William A. Wilkes. He retired in 1997 with 23 years of service. Howard and his beloved wife, Margaret, enjoyed 63 years of marriage before she passed away in 2016. Howard is also predeceased in death by his parents, brother, Russell Darnell, sister-in-law, Mary Mullins and sons, Baby Darnell, and Clifford D. Darnell. He is survived by sons, Montie L. Darnell (Renee), Terry A. Darnell and Steve R. Darnell; daughter, Pamela E. Darnell; brother, Virgil L. Mullins; sister-in-law, Barbara Darnell, nine grandchildren, Susan, Tara, Melissa, Montie, Jr., Clifford, Jr., Billy, Paul, Matthew, Adam; nieces Michelle (Greg), Nicole (Josh), Linda, and Sonja; nephews Greg, Brian and Clinton; as well as several great grandchildren, three great nieces and one great nephew.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, November 8, 2021 at Penney Farms Cemetery with Pastor Charlie Hunt officiating.
