Herbert G. Knight, Jr.

July 14, 1938 — March 12, 2022

Herbert G. Knight, Jr passed away at the age of 83 on March 12, 2022 at Orange Park Medical Center surrounded by his family.

He was born July 14, 1938 in Scranton, PA to Herbert G. Knight, Sr and Alice Coil Knight and grew up in Woodbury, NJ with one older brother, Walter Knight.

Herbert graduated from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA with a Chemical Engineering degree.   In a career spanning over 35 years, he worked for several chemical and munitions companies.   Herbert was a very humble, kind man who chose his words with caution earning the nickname "Silent Knight" by coworkers.    His cutting-edge work with explosives earned several patents and he was regarded as an expert in his field.

After a successful blind date arranged by friends, Herbert married the love of his life, Helen Gruca on September 12, 1964.  They welcomed their only child, Kenneth to the family in September 1965.

During their life together, Herbert and Helen lived in New Jersey, Alabama, Utah and retired to Florida.   Herbert cared for his mother for many years during her Alzheimer's struggle.    He was known as Gramps by his three grandchildren and spent his retirement years enjoying them.  Herbert was an active grandparent and helped take them to many school events, sports practices, restaurant lunches, merry go rounds, and enjoyed lots of summer swimming with them.

Herbert is survived by his wife, Helen Gruca Knight; son, Kenneth (Lou Ann) Knight, Fleming Island, FL; grandchildren, Britney Knight, Fleming Island, FL, Taylor Knight, Orlando, FL, Travis Knight, Goodyear, AZ and brother, Walter (Lili) Knight, Chalfont, PA and several nieces and nephews.

Herbert was loving, smart, thoughtful, generous to all and a kind caring person and will be greatly missed but we will be forever imprinted with his goodness.  Our family has been so blessed to have had such a sweet and gentle giant of our own.

There will be a family send off for Herbert at a later date.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please call, or hug your dad and/or grandpa today or adopt one if you don't have your own.
