Helen Virginia Whetsell Hartzog, 96, entered her eternal home July 14,2026.

The eldest daughter of Marion and Virginia Whetsell born on September 5, 1929. She attended Winthrop College then married Augustus Jessen Hartzog, Jr for 64 years. They raised 6 children.

Survived by Virginia (Jenny) Peeples, Patricia (Penny) and spouse Michael Rosemond, Augustus (Jesse), Augustus (Jacob) and spouse Staci Hartzog and numerous grand and great grandchildren.

Predeceased by her spouse (Gus) and youngest children Nancy and Marion (Lee).

Always kind, generous, loving, putting God and family first asking little but giving her best. Her siblings, their families, her friends have been a loving support system throughout her journey. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, nature; anything that brought her closer to God and family.

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Pastor Dave Eddins of Bostwick Baptist Church for prayer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Cedar Creek Baptist Church with Dr. John Montgomery officiating followed by light refreshments. Burial will follow at 2:00pm on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
