George Edward Montour

February 8, 1935 — May 26, 2022

George Edward Montour, 87, of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away peacefully at his home on May 26, 2022.

George was born in Stamford, CT to George Edward and Mary Montour on February 8, 1935. George was a proud graduate of Central High School and the University of Bridgeport, where he was a member of their golf team. George married Charlene Scheyer on January 18, 1963. They had a beautiful marriage spanning six decades. They lovingly raised two children, Lisa Seidewitz and Michael Montour. Charlene was a registered nurse and took amazing care of her husband of 59 years. George started his career in the golf business. However, in 1965, with his daughter on the way, he took over his father’s sales job at Engelhard Minerals and Chemicals. He worked there until his retirement as regional sales manager in 1998. George was also a veteran of the Korean War and served in the US Navy from 1953-1955.

George loved his Yankees, UCONN women’s basketball, his lifelong friends, and his hometown of Bridgeport, CT. However, golf was his most beloved pursuit. He played the game, studied the game, taught the game, and watched the game. He was an accomplished player and received so much joy from playing with his dear friends, his son Mike, and his son-in-law, Dirk Seidewitz. He was blessed to have had the following courses/clubs that meant so much to him including Fairchild Wheeler (CT), Hillendale CC (CT), Round Hill CC (CA), Mill River CC (CT) and Magnolia Point CC (FL).

While he had his passions, George loved his family first and foremost. His wife, children, and grandchild will miss him deeply and the wise and encouraging words he always shared.

George is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Montour.

George is survived by his wife Charlene Montour; daughter Lisa Seidewitz; son-in-law Dirk Seidewitz; son Michael Montour; sister Helen Murphy; a nephew and several nieces; and a granddaughter Chelsea Seidewitz. George was incredibly close to his granddaughter and they had an amazing relationship.

The family will be holding a private memorial at a later date.
