Felicia Ford, age 72, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, after a long illness. A devoted wife and mother, Felicia was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. She moved to Florida two decades ago and resided in Green Cove Springs. She was a congregant of Sacred Heart Church in Fleming Island, where she taught fifth-grade CCD for many years.
Felicia was predeceased by her husband Charles Hirsh and by her parents Joseph Ford and Sophia Bielawska. She’s survived by two sons, Jason York, a retired lieutenant commander in the Navy, and Luke Ford, a doctoral candidate at The New School in Manhattan, by three grandsons, Shane, Evan, and Alex York, and a great-granddaughter, Shyla York, as well as by two siblings, Dennis Ford and Kathleen Pecoraro, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Felicia loved teaching children and helping people of every age. She wrote Out of the First Person: A Memoir of Hope, directed at women in recovery. Felicia also loved being with friends, talking with them, and shopping. And she loved walking in the park in the evening. She served in the Navy in the Vietnam conflict.
A Mass of Remembrance will be held on May 29 at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of the Sacred Heart on Route 17 in Fleming Island.
