Ethel “Lee” George

June 30, 1943 to July 27, 2023

Fleming Island, Florida

Ethel “Lee” George was a native of Jacksonville, Florida, and a proud retiree of Ma Bell (Bell South/AT&T).

Spending most of her time since 1986, enjoying life on Doctor’s Lake in Fleming Island, Florida, Lee was drawn to area rivers and lakes, and she loved boating, fishing, fish fries and oyster roasts.  She enjoyed sharing her love of water with family and friends whenever possible.

An avid fan of football and basketball, Lee especially enjoyed college sports, supporting Florida teams, particularly the “Gators”, with vigor. She also supported a variety of non-profit charitable organizations that served people and animals, giving what she could to make life a little easier for those in need.

As an uncertified boat captain, Lee conquered the most challenging situations with grace. She could read the water and was happy to teach others.

True to Lee’s wishes, she passed away in her home on the lake surrounded by family and friends.

Survivors include life partner Angela King, brothers Wade George, Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Drexel George, Alexandria, VA, nieces and nephews from Virginia to Florida as well as many dear friends. Lee was predeceased by her father Lonnie George, mother Ethel Morris George, and brothers Preston George and Wendell George.

Special thanks to her caregivers, Florine Shonk and Jeryl McCloud, for their dedication during the last months of Lee’s life.

A Celebration of Life for Lee will be scheduled in the fall.
