Eleanor "Ellen" Marie Mitchell Mattox

Eleanor “Ellen” Marie Mitchell Mattox passed away after a sudden illness Monday, June 23, 2025, in Orange Park, Florida, at the age of 77. She was born August 5, 1947, in Palatka, Florida, to the late Thomas Watson and Myrtie Mae Wall Mitchell. After graduating from Clay High School, Ellen moved to south Florida managing Real-estate complexes for several years before moving back home to be with her family. She was an outstanding member of the community, living in Green Cove Springs most of her life.

Ellen was an amazing daughter, sister, aunt, Nanny, and friend to so many people in Clay County. She was loving, kind, generous, everything bejeweled, sassy, an incredible cook, and was well-known for her decadent brownies and her baking skills. Fondly, for nearly 25 years, Ellen volunteered her services to the Early Florida Village Baxley House during the Annual Clay County Fair cooking and baking delicious food. Her dedicated service to her community, the citizens of Clay County, and her love for our County Fair will be remembered lovingly by her fellow volunteers and friends for years to come.

Ellen was predeceased by her husband David Mattox, and her beloved nephew David Thomas Mitchell. She is survived by her brothers; Thomas (Barbara) I. Mitchell, David (Nancy) L. Mitchell, Michael (Anne) P. Mitchell, and James (Denise) H. Boivin. She leaves a multitude of beautiful nieces and great-nieces, handsome nephews and great-nephews, and numerous lovely grandchildren; all of whom she adored and loved immensely. Ellen was an important facet not only to our family, but to her loving friends and extended family. She will be greatly missed.

Our beautiful Ellen: rest in peace with our Lord and Savior, for you are forever in our hearts and we will cherish the memories. We Love You!

There will be a private celebration of life for the family soon. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her name to Community Hospice and Palliative Care of Clay County, 4689 US-17, Suite #9, Fleming Island, Florida, 32003.
