It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Edith Mason, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who left this world peacefully at her home on July 21, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on January 14, 1934, in Bamburg, South Carolina, Edith was a beacon of love and compassion throughout her life, cherished by all who had the privilege to know her. Edith was the cherished daughter of the late George Spells, Sr. and Lillian Halyard. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, her dear sisters Ada Williams, Dorothy Gay, and Dolores Johnson, her brother George Spells, Jr., and her treasured children Terrence Kevin, Pamela Candice, and Candace Dolores. Despite these profound losses, Edith's spirit remained unbroken and resilient, a testament to her unwavering faith and inner strength. In September 1955, Edith married Clay Cassius Mason. Together, they had four beautiful children, Terrence Kevin, Pamela Candice,Candace Dolores, Ericka Joy and Shawn Arnold. Adopted children Lamont Christian, Patrick Paret. A devoted grandmother, Edith leaves behind six grandchildren: Danielle Alexandria, Shemika Alise, Courtney Nicole, Sharise Anita, Alexis-Dionne, and Christian. Her boundless love and wisdom extended to her twelve (12) great-grandchildren, and Great-Great Grandchild each of whom brought her immense joy and pride. Edith was a proud graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, where she discovered her passion for helping others. She dedicated over twenty years of her life to nursing and foster care, touching the lives of countless individuals with her nurturing spirit. In her later years, she found joy in being a seamstress and reading stories to children at the local elementary school, further enriching her community with her talents and kindness. A woman of deep faith, Edith was an active member of Plainfield's Christian Science Church, where she found solace and strength. Her love for adventure, thrifting, poetry writing, and game show trivia defined her vibrant personality, while her quick wit, kindness, generosity, and warm smile left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Edith's life was a testament to the power of love and kindness. Her memory will be cherished by her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched throughout her journey. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her memory to a charity of your choice, continuing her legacy of generosity and compassion.
