Clarence Edward “Ed” Hopkins, 81, of Middleburg, passed away on May 10, 2026.

At 18 years old, Ed joined the United States Navy in March of 1963, beginning a distinguished military career defined by dedication and honor. While stationed in Virginia Beach, he met the love of his life, Laura Jane Ketsules. The two were married on December 23, 1964, in Elizabeth City and together built a loving family, raising their two children, Edward and Katherine. Ed and Laura shared 54 devoted years of marriage before her passing.

After proudly serving his country for 27 years, Ed retired from the Navy as a Command Master Chief on June 1, 1990. He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, strong work ethic, bravery and deep love for God, family and football.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mildred Hopkins; his beloved wife, Laura and four siblings, Mary, Gloria, Ricky and Robbie.

He is survived by his children, Edward and Katherine; sisters, Peggy Benton and Vickey Harrison; grandchildren, Chelsey Shouppe, Trenton Hopkins, Amber Johnson, Halea Hopkins and Madison Yarborough; eight great-grandchildren as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

A memorial service with full military honors will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, May 30, 2026, in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Pastor Jeromy Larson officiating.
