Daniel John Deptula 

April 6, 1971 – June 6, 2025

Daniel John Deptula passed away peacefully in hospice care in Palatka, Florida, on June 6, 2025, at the age of 54, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in New Jersey to Walter and Jeanette Deptula, Dan lived a life defined by service, strength, and adventure. A 1993 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, he continued his leadership journey at the National War College, where he was elected class president, graduating in 2016. He served our country with honor for 25 years. After retiring, Dan found purpose and camaraderie at Emergency Management Services International, Inc.

In 2009, he married the love of his life, Joyce, during a white-water rafting trip in West Virginia, sealing their vows with a zipline ride through the trees. Dan thrived on challenge and lived for adventure—completing countless triathlons, marathons, Ironmans, and races of every kind.

Above all, Dan was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend. His greatest pride and joy were his two children, who meant everything to him.

He is preceded in death by his father, Walter, and survived by his wife Joyce, their children, his mother Jeanette, and his sister.

A private family funeral will be held. A celebration of life will take place on July 5, 5:30 - 8 PM at the Rivertown Riverhouse Amenity Center, 140 Landing Street, St. Johns County, FL.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven - Roberts Hospice Care Center or the Brain Tumor Network.

Dan was a fearless competitor, a trusted leader, and a true inspiration. Though we mourn his absence, we take comfort in knowing that he’s back in top form—winning the Great Adventure Race in the sky.
