Christine Elaine Cook Coates

Christine Elaine Cook Coates passed peacefully on March 8, 2025. Christine ‘Chrissy’ ‘Chris’ was born December 31, 1947, in Burlington IA, to Katherine J Schilb & Russell W Cook, Jr., both deceased. Her childhood in Iowa was followed by teen years in Florida where she made her home. College in Illinois & at JU, where she met Artis Gilmore, led to a career in banking and finance. She married, had one son, Clay Russell Coates, and a love of chickens. Chris’ greatest joy was her granddaughter, Lacy Michael. Lacy's brother, Aiden, and parents, Amber & Tyler shared their love with Chrissy.

Chris is survived by four incredible sisters, Marsha Ann Cook Barton Pruisner, Judith Elizabeth Cook Parks, Margaret Ellen Cook-Newell, (Henry L Newell III) and Jeannine Louise Cook Delpit (Stephen L Delpit) scattered across the eastern half of the US. Steve was always there whenever Chrissy needed anything. And for that we are forever grateful.

Nieces and nephews, Bartons, Parks, Newell and Delpit, too many to name, and their families are sharing their love and care. Becca, Jay, Jaxon, Avery, Alivia and Ansley, Cathy, Janet, Pat and Greg, Donna Logan and Charlie; and other close friends, including her Pinewood Church family, and all who cared for Chrissy are acknowledged in her love and ours. Her years at Silver Treasures, under the care of Shelby, Maria, and all the staff and Sydney with Hospice, were peaceful, caring and compassionate.

Thank you, thank you, thank, you to each and every one of you who made Chris’ life worth living.

Services are to be held at Pinewood Presbyterian Church,198 Knight Boxx Rd, Middleburg, FL 32068 on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 1:00 PM.

Chris loved nourishing others through her involvement at Pinewood Church as Church Hostess. She was also committed to mission work in West Virginia. She raised chickens, collected perfume bottles, and teacups. Loved planning and putting together meals, parties, etc. - for which she collected hammered aluminum serving pieces. She also loved to put on her boots and dance up a storm.

If you’d like to honor Chris’ memory, please contribute to an organization that aids others in need or to your preferred organization. Love your families and be kind to all. It's all part of God's plan as Chrissy often reminded us.
