Charles “Charlie” Augustus Hipp, 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 25, 2021, in St. Johns, Florida.
Charlie was born to Frances Kidd Hipp and Charlie Glenn Hipp on March 28, 1937, in Newnan, Georgia. He was raised in Jacksonville, graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in 1955. “High Hurdling Hipp” attended the University of Florida on a track scholarship, was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order, graduated with a degree in advertising, and was commissioned into the Marine Corps. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California and in Okinawa, Japan before completing his active service with a rank of captain and continued to serve his beloved country several years as a Marine Corps Reserve. He then began a successful career in sales and enjoyed his work with Johnson & Johnson for 34 years; it was there that he met the love of his life, Lucia. They were married for 54 years and raised their 2 sons, Charles Jr. and Robert Bryan, in Plantation, Florida. Charlie was a loving, loyal and supportive husband, a tremendous role model to his sons, and a proud “Papa” of his four grandchildren.
After retiring from Johnson & Johnson and moving to Green Cove Springs, Florida, Charlie enjoyed his work as a starter at the Slammer and Squire at the World Golf Village. Charlie loved woodworking, reading history books, vacationing in North Carolina, traveling with friends, playing golf (and hunting for golf balls), snow skiing, fishing, cheering for Gator football, and sharing jokes and stories with his family and friends. He and Lucia were long-time members of Orange Park United Methodist Church.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Lucia Robinson Hipp and his sons - Charles Augustus Hipp Jr. (Faith) of St. Johns, Florida, and his son Robert Bryan Hipp (Jennifer) of Jacksonville, Florida. His surviving grandchildren are Rachel Mazie Hipp and Charles Augustus Hipp III of St. Johns, Florida; Davis William Hipp and Allison Lindsay Hipp of Jacksonville, Florida. He also leaves behind his sister, Marjorie Hipp Piacentine (Gary) of St. Johns, Florida, and many nieces and nephews.
