After a brief stint in 1969 working with his father and brothers in the concrete business in the Miami Florida area, he returned to Houston. In 1974 he married Earline Thibodaux Hadley and her son Jeffrey Wayne. He remained an iron worker for the next 25 years, erecting some of the most iconic buildings in the Houston area, including the current Lakewood church, formerly the Houston Summit.
