Stanley Otis Schoel, 93, passed away on September 20, 2011. He was born on June 1, 1918 in Birmingham, AL to parents Fred and Ella Schoel. He lived most of his life in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Stanley honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII; earning the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 2 Clusters and the Asiatic Pacific Medal with Bronze Star. He enjoyed living and traveling worldwide. Stanley attended the University of Alabama, where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Washington Alpine Club. He also received a Certificate of Merit from the Alabama Department of Natural Resources. He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his great nephew, Joseph Tooker; great niece, Abigail D’Esposito and her husband Angelo.
